61 YEARS AGO TODAY

JACKIE ROBINSON BROKE THE COLOR BARRIER 4-15-47 AND MLB IS UNRETIRING HIS NUMBER 42 GIVING ALL PLAYERS THE OPTION TO WEAR HIS NUMBER TODAY. SOME WHOLE TEAMS INCLUDING THE RAYS ARE WEARING IT, HATS OFF TO THOSE TEAMS. YANKEE'S ROBINSON CANO, DEREK JETER AND MANAGER JOE GIRARDI ARE ALL WEARING # 42 FOR THE DAY. AS MARIANO RIVERA SAID AND I AGREE ALL MLB TEAMS SHOULD BE WEARING IT TODAY. LET'S MAKE IT A RULE GOING FORWARD ON THIS DAY EVERY PLAYER ON EVERY TEAM MUST WEAR #42. I'M PROUD TO BE FROM BROOKLYN WHO LEAD THE WAY.

61 years ago baseball and America changed for good when Jackie took the field in Brooklyn. I find it amazing that people still don't understand the magnitude of intergrating the sport in a time when America was facing race issues. Thanks Branch Rickey who pioneered this, as he also brought the 1st hispanic player into the big leagues. He is deemed one of the greatest baseball people ever. We appriciate what you have done! Jackie will forever be remembered in Baseball as well as Brooklyn!
